Aston Villa Destroy Brighton 6-1, Ollie Watkins Scores Hat-Trick
Brighton and Hove Albion vs Aston Villa
Aston Villa cruised to a 6-1 victory over top-four rivals Brighton & Hove Albion thanks to a hat-trick from Ollie Watkins.
The win moves Villa up to eighth in the Premier League table, while Brighton drop down to 10th. Villa took the lead in the 14th minute when Watkins headed home a cross from Matty Cash. Watkins doubled the lead in the 22nd minute with a low drive from outside the box, and he completed his hat-trick in the 39th minute with a close-range finish.
Brighton pulled a goal back in the second half through Neal Maupay, but Villa restored their three-goal lead in the 68th minute when Douglas Luiz scored a free-kick. Emi Buendia and Leon Bailey added further goals for Villa in the 79th and 84th minutes respectively.
The win was Villa's biggest in the Premier League since they beat Liverpool 7-2 in 2020. It was also their first win over Brighton since 2015.
Brighton will be looking to bounce back when they host Manchester United on Saturday, while Villa will travel to Newcastle on the same day.
