Fast: Classic mistake: Mainz eater is sent off against Freiburg
Serge Gnabry and Sadio Mané are back, but the Bayern stars could not prevent the next setback in the Bundesliga. In Freiburg, the German record champions lost 2-1 (1-0) and suffered their third defeat of the season. After six games, Bayern are only fifth in the table.
Vincenzo Grifo (33rd minute) and Michael Gregoritsch (73rd) scored the goals for Freiburg. Mathys Tel (90th) scored for Bayern in the final minutes. Shortly after the equalizer, however, Munich's Dayot Upamecano saw the red card (90.+6). Mainz are now up to fourth place with twelve points.
Bayern lacked ideas and creativity in the first half, especially in the final third. The hosts, on the other hand, were dangerous with quick attacks and deservedly took the lead through Grifo. Shortly after the restart, Freiburg had the chance to make it 2-0, but Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer saved brilliantly against Lucas Höler.
Munich tried to turn up the heat, but they only managed to create a few chances. Freiburg stood compactly in defense and repeatedly relieved the pressure with quick counterattacks. In the 73rd minute, Gregoritsch capitalized on a mistake by Neuer and made it 2-0. Tel's late goal came too late for Bayern.
After the third defeat of the season, Bayern are under pressure. With only twelve points, the record champions are already eight points behind leaders Union Berlin. Freiburg, on the other hand, continue their strong start to the season and are now only one point behind Bayern.
